Sam + Thinh
Bringing Two Cultures Together

AUGUST IN SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA
JAMES LEARY FLOOD MANSION

Set in San Francisco, Sam and Thinh’s celebration was shaped by their life between London and the Bay Area, with a focus on honoring both of their backgrounds in a way that felt intentional and shared. From the beginning, they approached the weekend as an opportunity to bring their families together, incorporating traditions that invited guests to take part—including a tea ceremony and a sand ritual using gold flakes to symbolize unity.

The design balanced clean lines with layered materials, allowing the architecture to lead while introducing texture and contrast throughout the space. The Japanese art of kintsugi inspired many details in the design—from the paper goods to the wedding cake. Personal details carried through the experience, including a live poet creating custom pieces for guests during the reception. The evening unfolded with ease, moving from dinner into a full dance floor, with each moment building naturally on the one before it.
